Safety First

I was once building a battery for my homemade e-bike,
I was working alone in the building and probably jamming to some music, when I accidentally short-circuited a couple of the cells.
These were high-discharge cells, so they went up in flames and started a small fire.
Dang! I threw them on the ground and tried to break apart the battery pack to undo the short circuit.
While doing this, I made the problem even worse.
The cells were held together by thin strips of nickel, which ended up cutting my fingers, and I started bleeding.
I didn’t know what to do. I panicked and tried to fix the problem instead of looking out for my health and safety first.
Luckily there was a machinist closeby and probably heard me shouting like a madman, so he came in with the fire extinguisher and put out the fire.
Learn from my mistake…

If there’s a fire, grab the fire extinguisher! Look out for your health and safety first.
Don’t worry about the batteries, you can find new ones!

Stay safe…
If you go to a store, wear a mask.
If you ride a bike, wear a helmet and reflective materials.
If you’re feeling a bit lonely, call up a good friend and see how they’re doing.
If you feel in danger, shout for Help! You’d be surprised at the kindness of everyday strangers walking around.
And if you’re putting together your own battery pack, have a fire extinguisher nearby đŸ˜‰

Take care,
-Manny
